As an avid lover of fashion (high and everyday) I have tried to hold my tongue on this issue of so called “SWAGGER”. Lets look in the dictionary and see what it says:
1 How one presents himself to the world, the ability to handle a situation with a sense of calm and uncanny grace. The ability to maintain a healthy level of self-confidence without appearing arrogant.
2. The seeming effortlessness to a person’s admired style, the way they walk, talk and dress.
3. The inability to be easily shaken by anyone or anything
These are the real meanings of the word SWAGGER, but it has gone too far to turn back and let people know as they have ultimately DESTROYED this once clean word. People think “Swagger” is colour co-ordination or wearing things which othe people around you are wearing, this is a common misconception which has lead to THE DEATH OF SWAGGER.
Everywhere I look I see people in the same age group as myself conforming to one dress code or style, when I see this I actually laugh sooo hard and shake my head, there seems to be a uniform for thes people which contains…..

Lyle and Scott Cardigan/Polo's
Ralph Lauren Polo/Rugby tops

Combat jeans
COMMON jd sports Air Force Ones

TYPICAL Vans

White gold chains
All of these things are so common within namely black boys in my community, I honestly don’t understand why this is. Maybe when these ANYGUYS wear these things they feel that it’s a uniform of invincibility or helps them get noticed by girls and accepted by their peers, if you’re one of them reading this it does NONE OF THE ABOVE, you look like normal people not BAIDERS OR MONEY GUYS.
There are some people out there like myself who don’t care about these things but are annoyed with people who wear these items, I’m not having a ranting session I’m just expressing myself and I do understand that these people may also be expressing themselves but it’s getting a bit out of hand now.
I like to dress differently to these people in case you have not guessed, I wear things which are not the same as what seems to be infecting the wardrobes of our modern youth, when I wear clothes I make sure I’m passionate about them and I’m not wearing them because of the colour of the tag or the massive logo on the chest.
I’m starting my own clothing line (I hate that term as it sounds so cleshay) but I am it’s called Jak Didit and will appeal to people who don’t wanna follow trends and are interested in quality rather than fitting in with their peers, I will make sure that it does not become part of the conformist uniform or bleed people dry because if it does I will actually stop doing it.
I have said my piece and this is what I think, leave comments if you are for or against what I have said, if you’re interested in the Jak didit movement save this page as a favorite in your Internet Explorer, Safari or Mozilla Firefox application and I’ll keep you posted on the progress.
